EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF POS BUSINESSES ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN ASABA

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on the effect of pos businesses on the unemployment rate using Asaba, Delta State as case study. To achieve this 3 research objectives were formulated.  The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of all the POS business owners and staff n the study area. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 65 respondents while 50 respondents were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage. The result of the findings reveals that; POS businesses has affected employment in Nigeria, small businesses in Nigeria do make use of POS machine and POS business has decreased unemployment in Nigeria as well. The paper recommends that the Nigerian Government should empower a good number of unemployed citizens of the nation through the establishment of POS businesses. In addition to this, the Government should ensure adequate availability of power and stability of mobile network in the society. This will go a long way in promoting the profitability and effectiveness of POS businesses. Lastly in other to curtail the vexatious rate of unemployment in the country the government should utilize the numerous recommendations outlined in chapter two of this study.
